ABOUT NSS UNIT AT PONJESLY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Mahatma Gandhi centenary year 1969 and aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. The overall objective of the National Service is educational. This objective is attained through the service to the community.
The institution started the self-financing NSS unit with effect from10-01-2019 with the following vision, mission, plan of action and scope
VISION
The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.
MISSION
The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS Aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education
PLAN OF ACTION
- To develop leadership quality in the student.
- To develop personality and life skills of student.
- To put up current issues of society
- To Develop good citizenship in the student to maintain the hormone of society
- To make the students aware about their social responsibilities
- To empower the students to overcome the social and regional problems
SCOPE OF PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION
1.Education:
Consumer awareness, entrepreneurial education, programs on eradicating social evils, etc.
2.Health and Wellbeing:
Immunisation, Eye camp, health education, Awareness of critical diseases like AIDS, Cancer, etc.; Working with people in nutrition and hygiene programs; life skill education, etc.
3.Environment Conservation:
Plantation of trees and their preservation/ upkeep; cleaning and maintenance of streets, drains, etc.; Construction of sanitary latrines, watershed management, soil conservation etc.
4.Social Service Programs:
- Medical camps, Sanitation camp, Vaccination camp etc.
- Relief and Rehabilitation during Natural Calamities: Distribution of rations, medicines, clothing, immunisation and inoculation, etc. to the suffering people, Awareness programs on the concerned National days by celebrating it with events.
OBJECTIVES
The overall objective of NSS is Personality Development through community service. Campus to Community Linkage.
The broad objectives of NSS are to:
- Understand the community in which they work.
- Understand themselves in relation to their community.
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in the problem-solving process.
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- Utilize their knowledge in finding a practical solution to individual and community problems.
- Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
- Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
- Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
- Develop the capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster and Practice national integration and social harmony
