DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2006 and is committed to prepare the students to take on appropriate professional positions upon graduation also to grow into leadership positions, the syllabi of the course are uniquely designed. In addition to the prescribed university syllabus, the following special initiatives have been introduced by the department to prepare the graduates to meet the challenges of the dynamically changing IT industry.
We provide independence to the students to choose project topics that are state-of-the-art as well as industry relevant. Depending on the project area chosen by the students, the department appoints a faculty, who has experience in the area or related areas, as project supervisors. Students get the unique opportunity to communicate and interact with relevant industry professionals who will acts as Project Mentors. The database of the project mentors and communication modalities are controlled by the Head of the Department.
A personality development course designed to help the students to discover themselves and to horn their interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
The department organizes special interactive programme for final year students to boost their confidence and competence in technical areas of Information Technology and to enable them to excel in responding to technical interview questions.
Keeping in view of the diverse background of the students, ‘Introduction to Problem Solving’ has been designed as a bridging course to lay strong foundation in problem solving. This course helps the students to enhance their logical thinking. The main objective of the course is to assist the students, who came from Biology background, to reduce their apprehensions towards C programming.
An exclusive aptitude training programme in Technical non-Technical, to prepare the students for placement as well as for other competitive examinations.
Seminars and discussions with experts from industry as well as academics are organized regularly to provide a platform for the students to keep abreast with latest developments.
To integrate continuous evaluation into the teaching-learning progress, Performance Enhancement Tests are conducted on every day first hour. Through this evaluation the teacher continuously monitors the progress of the students. The process of learning is also monitored and if needed be altered. The quality of the product of the learning is also assessed.

LAB FACILITIES
The department has more emphasis towards the advanced studies through practical learning and work to introduce new modern-daysoftware and systems in the laboratories.Mrs. J. Freeda Rose, Assistant Professor, Department of IT is in charge of the Laboratory 2 and assisted by Mr.Selvin Rajesh. Laboratories are essential to simplify practical learning and make hands-on training easy and accessible throughout the engineering course. The lab has 58 computer systems with all advanced software facilities. Following is the list of laboratory subjects handled.
- FOSS and Cloud Computing Laboratory
The main scope of this lab is the fastest way to gain real experience with Cloud Computing Fundamentals. Labs guide you step by step in a secure, sandboxed environment. This lab can make use of Virtual Box for implementing Virtualization concepts. Also, it can be used to create and execute Hadoop cluster and execute map reduce programs. This lab can also demonstrate how to execute HDFS commands and Unix commands in virtual machine.
- Security Laboratory
The main objective of this laboratory is to learn different cipher techniques, implement the algorithms DES, RSA, MD5, SHA-1 and to use network security tools and vulnerability assessment tools. Using this lab one can develop code for classical encryption techniques to solve the problems. Build cryptosystems by applying symmetric and public key encryption algorithms. Construct code for authentication algorithms. Develop a signature scheme using Digital signature standard. Demonstrate the network security system using open source tools.
- Data Structures and Algorithms Laboratory
The main objective of this laboratory is to understand the problem solving approaches, and to learn the basic programming constructs in Python. One can practice various computing strategies for Python-based solutions to real world problems. Also, it uses Python data structures – lists, tuples, dictionaries and to do input/output with files in Python.
- Object Oriented Programming Laboratory
This lab reinforces understanding of basic object oriented programming concepts (objects, classes and subclasses, methods) and their expression in Java. It also provides practice using non-object aspects of Java (loops, conditionals, etc) .Make students to understand how to access enterprise databases from the application program.
- Data Science Laboratory
This lab can be useful to understand the python libraries for data science and to understand the basic Statistical and Probability measures for data science. Using this the students can learn descriptive analytics on the benchmark data sets. This can be applied to find correlation and regression analytics on standard data sets. Also, it supports to present and interpret data using visualization packages in Python.
- Operating Systems Laboratory
This lab complements the operating systems course. Students will gain practical experience with designing and implementing concepts of operating systems such as system calls, CPU scheduling, process management, memory management, file systems and deadlock handling using C language in Linux environment. The primary goal is to expose students to all of the important issues involved in designing and implementing operating systems.
- Database Management Systems Laboratory
The major objective of this lab is to provide a strong formal foundation in database concepts, technology and practice to the participants to groom them into well-informed database application developers. Rather than imparting isolated knowledge/experience fragments in each of concepts, technology and practice, the course will aim at achieving a good blend of the three. Also, to give a good formal foundation on the relational model of data and to present SQL and procedural interfaces to SQL comprehensively.
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Laboratory
Python is a general purpose, high-level programming language; other high level languages you might have heard of C++, PHP, Java and Python. Virtually all modern programming languages make us of an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), which allows the creation, editing, testing, and saving of programs and modules. Artificial Intelligence has become an essential part of the technology industry. Research associated with artificial intelligence is highly technical and specialized. Machine learning focuses on the development of Computer Programs that can change when exposed to new data.
- Web Essentials Laboratory
The main scope of this lab is to comprehend and analyze the basic concepts of web programming and internet protocols. This will describe how the client-server model of Internet programming works. Also, helps to demonstrate the uses of scripting languages and to write simple scripts for the creation of web sites.
- Full Stack Web Development Laboratory
A full-stack developer is a developer or engineer who can build both the front end and the back end of a website. So that they must have expertise in both. Full-stack developers design and create websites and applications for various platforms. It helps to develop and maintain web services and interfaces, contribute to front-end and back-end development processes, build new product features or APIs and perform tests, troubleshoot software, and fix bugs.
- Computer Networks Laboratory
The main objective of this laboratory is to expose students to various fields in networking. Here we have to use C, Linux, NS2 software. Well designed platforms are available for experimental work on various topics like TCP, UDP, MAC, Sliding window protocol, RPC. All the Network Programs are used for constructing and modeling the required application.
- Digital and Mobile Forensics Laboratory
The main objective of this lab is to understand digital forensics and techniques to extract data from call logs, SMS and contacts using Sleuth kit on Linux. A mobile verification toolkit(MVT) is used to decrypt the encrypted iOS backups. To understand and use forensics tools for Android devices and extract diagnostic information through adb protocol.
